PRODUCT GUIDE / SEPTEMBER 2026
RELAY Companion
The focused local playback engine for RELAY Web.
What Companion does
RELAY Companion verifies supported sources, handles torrent sessions and prepares a playable loopback stream on the same Windows PC. It is not a separate catalogue and is not required by the native RELAY Windows app.
Install and connect
- Download Companion from the official PARALLAX downloads page.
- Run the installer on 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11. Companion installs to
C:\Program Files\PARALLAX\Companion. - Start Companion, then open RELAY Web on the same computer.
- Use RELAY Web's connection check and allow local-device access if the browser requests it.
Tray behavior
Closing the window keeps Companion available in the Windows notification area so RELAY Web can reach the local engine. Use the tray menu to reopen the window or quit completely.
Automatic updates
Companion checks the stable channel on startup and periodically while running. A banner appears when a verified update is available and shows download progress. Choose Install and restart; Companion closes, launches its updater, replaces the existing Program Files installation and starts the new version. It does not install a duplicate copy.
What stays local
Peer connections, torrent transfer and media preparation run on your machine. RELAY Web asks Companion for connection status and a local playable stream. Closing a session releases temporary playback data; a crash may require restarting Companion so cleanup can complete.
If RELAY Web shows Companion offline
Confirm Companion is running on the same computer. Browser privacy settings, local-network permissions, firewall rules and security software may block loopback access. Retry after correcting the relevant setting. Never disable the firewall globally or expose Companion ports to the public internet.
Windows publisher warning
Download only from streamparallax.com. The current package uses PARALLAX release signatures for update verification but may still show an unknown Windows publisher or SmartScreen warning until commercial Authenticode signing is available.
When asking for help
Include the Companion version, browser version and exact visible error. Remove private paths, credentials and personalised addon links from logs before sharing them.
